Founder
Wolff Shipp began his career in the insurance industry in 2015, working with well-known companies like State Farm, Geico, Progressive, Allstate, Nationwide, National General, The Hartford, and Travelers. Over the years, he has developed a deep expertise in coastal North Carolina home and auto insurance and has become highly skilled in ACA under-65 health insurance. Wolff has helped clients across North Carolina, from the Raleigh/Durham area to the borders of Virginia, Tennessee, and South Carolina.
After many years of working for other North Carolina insurance agencies, Wolff took a bold step in 2022 to create Cold Mountain Insurance. His vision was to serve North Carolinians with a more personalized approach. As Wolff puts it, “We will never grow so big that you lose the personal touch of having an agent who knows you and your story.” Our agents take the time to get to know you and are committed to being there when you need us most.

How we started
Founded in eastern North Carolina in the historic town of Southport, Cold Mountain Insurance was created to help people and their families who meet with unexpected emergencies and loss.
Starting from humble beginnings by Wolff Shipp, Wolff spent most of his early career learning “world class” customer service as a Service Manager with the Cintas Corporation in Baltimore, Maryland. After moving to Wilmington, NC in 2014, he struggled to find employment that would support his family. On the suggestion of a close family friend, Wolff studied and attained his insurance license in North Carolina with lines of authority in property, casualty, life and health Insurance.
From his experiences in the insurance industry in his early years, Wolff saw first hand the importance of life insurance. He witnessed how it helped people during some of the most difficult times in their lives. He also personally experienced how confusing and frustrating it was to try to buy health insurance through the ACA Marketplace.
How we got here
Our first step was to partner with companies that utilized cutting edge technology to offer instant issue life insurance. This type of coverage removes the medical exams and blood tests that can make getting life insurance inconvenient and time consuming.
Step two was to help people with health insurance through the ACA Marketplace and other health coverage through direct appointments with companies such as Blue Cross Blue Shield of NC, United Healthcare, Aetna, Cigna, Golden Rule Insurance Company and Ambetter. We also began offering healthcare sharing through Medi-Share administered by Christian Care Ministries. We're now licensed for health insurance in 24 states including North Carolina, South Carolina, Texas, Tennessee, Kansas, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, Louisiana, Georgia, Florida, Arkansas, Alabama, Ohio, Indiana, Oklahoma, West Virginia, Michigan, Arizona, Iowa, Utah, Virginia, Wisconsin and Wyoming.
Step three was to offer the most comprehensive and affordable property and casualty insurance coverage available on the market. We did so by partnering with some of the industry’s best A rated personal lines and commercial insurance companies available. We offer home, auto, motorcycle, boat, personal watercraft, yacht, RV, business, workers comp, high net worth, pet insurance, and so much more.

What's in a name
You may have noticed that eastern North Carolina has a serious lack of mountains, so why the name “Cold Mountain Insurance” you may ask? We wanted a name that symbolized stability and long-lasting strength, like the protection we offer our clients.
We also wanted a name that’s relatable to all people in North Carolina. Everyone from Bolivia and Southport, the Outer Banks, Jacksonville, Wilmington, Leland, and out to Fayetteville, Raleigh, Durham, Charlotte, Kannapolis, Asheville and beyond. We’re willing to climb any mountain to protect you and your family!
