Cold Mountain Insurance was founded in historic Southport, North Carolina by Wolff Shipp, who brought years of world-class customer service and management experience from Cintas Corporation in Baltimore, MD. After relocating to Wilmington, NC in 2014, Wolff transitioned into the insurance industry, obtaining his license in North Carolina with lines of authority in property, casualty, life, and health. As the agency grew, it became clear there was a real need for a dedicated local insurance professional in the Bolivia area. In response, Cold Mountain Insurance relocated its office from Southport to Bolivia to better serve the surrounding communities with convenient, personalized support. 

Through hands-on experience working for and representing companies like State Farm, Progressive, Allstate, Geico, Nationwide, The Hartford, National General, and Travelers, Wolff saw the gaps in personal service that big-name insurers left behind—and set out to do things differently.

After many years of working for other North Carolina insurance agencies, Wolff took a bold step in 2022 to create Cold Mountain Insurance. His vision was to serve North Carolinians with a more personalized approach. As Wolff puts it, “We will never grow so big that you lose the personal touch of having an agent who knows you and your story.” Our agents take the time to get to know you and are committed to being there when you need us most.
